Tell us what you think about changes we might make to the Council's Fair Contributions Policy (Easy Read questionnaire)

Overview

Tell us what you think

Northamptonshire Adult Social Services is planning to make changes to the way it works out how much people who receive social care services pay towards them. This is written down in some thing called the Fair Contributions Policy.

We would like to know what you think about our proposals.

A proposal is a plan or suggestion made by someone for others to think about and help them make a decision. It is usually written down.

Please read the proposals below and tell us what you think.

Why We Are Consulting

We are thinking about making three changes to our Fair Contributions Policy:

Pay for care

Disability Related Expenditure

Many people who receive social care will have to pay some money towards their care – this is known as a fair contribution.

When the Council works out how much someone can afford to pay towards their care, it leaves them with money to spend on everyday things like food and bills. It also leaves them with money to pay for things they need because of their disability. This is called Disability Related Expenditure.

The Council would like to know what you think about changing the amount of money people get to keep for Disability Related Expenditure. For some people, the amount they keep might go up but for other people, it might go down.

Older People’s Standard Income Disregard

Older People

When the Council works out how much someone can afford to pay towards their care, it leaves them with money to spend on everyday things like food and bills. At the moment in Northamptonshire, older people get to keep more than the Department of Health says they need (the statutory minimum).

The Council would like to know what you think about changing the amount of money older people get to keep for their everyday costs. We are thinking about reducing the amount of money that older people keep so that it is the same as what the Department of Health says they need (£189.00 per week instead of £194.50 per week).

Residential college charges

College

Some people who are at college and have care paid for by the Council have to pay money towards the cost of their care. At the moment, they are charged as if they are in residential care.

The Council would like to know what you think about changing the amount of money these customers pay so that they are charged as if they were receiving care in their own home. This will mean they get to keep more of their money and pay less towards their care.
